Term Paper: Format of Citations and References 1. Introduction. As you write your term papers, it will be important for you to document where you obtained the information cited in your report. Many of the references you use will come from published sources. Some may come from electronic sources such as the World Wide Web, Melvyl and Harvest.All references cited in the text must appear in the reference list, except for personal communications (such as conversations or emails) which cannot be retrieved. A bibliography is different from a reference list as it lists all the sources used during your research and background reading, not just the ones you refer to in your writing.A Reference list should contain only the details of the sources you have cited in the body of your text. A bibliography may also include details of other sources you consulted when researching a piece of work but may not have cited in your text. For each entry in the bibliography the author writes a brief description of the source's content.
